Default Re: Josh Childress signs with Greece team

Agree with you DA. This is not a good sign.

Carlos Delfino, Bostjan Nachbar, Allan Ray, Tony Delk, JC Navaro....all these guys decided they'd rather play in Europe than the NBA. Granted, none of them are stars, but they all still could be guys playing in the rotation for a lot of NBA teams. Now Josh Childress who is a starting calibar player heads overseas is not a good sign.

And I don't blame them. That 20 million he's getting is after taxes and he only plays one game a week (31 a year). That's a great deal that a lot of players will find more enticing.

Brandon Jennings is skipping college after failing his SATs for Europe. So instead of going to classes he's going to get paid to play 31 games (pretty much the same as in college) and live it up in a cool place like Italy. He probably is going to get much more in Europe than an NBA rookie scale contract would allow. I bet a lot of other HS kids will consider this option over college.

If this is a sign of things to come, this just waters down the talent in the league. Even though the guys leaving aren't stars, they're legit NBA talent that now will probably be replaced buy guys that are in the D-league. Guys like Mario West, Coby Karl, CJ Watson, Mike Harris, Ronald Dupree, Justin Reed, etc. are going to be taking the place of these guys.

David Stern wanted to make the game more international. Well, he got his wish. But this is probably not what he had envisioned.
