OK it's obvious Alex Smith is the guy. He was the first overall pick and has had several years to prove himself and is definitely not getting it done.
- Aaron Rodgers was drafted the same year but has been on the bench ever since.
- Tavaris Jackson just completed his first "full" year and had a decent record to show for it even though his play was mediocre.
- Tony Romo and Eli Manning are absolute jokes in this vote. One is a pro bowler that is leading one of the best passing games and the other was just Super Bowl MVP.
- Jason Campbell (same draft class as Smith) and Donovan McNabb (poor play) are the closest two that a case can be made for
But just look at the veteran starting quarterbacks taken first in their drafts since 2003:
2003: Carson Palmer
2004: Eli Manning (not to mention Philip Rivers and Roethlisberger in the first round)
2005: Alex Smith
2006: Vince Young
Of all these quarterbacks, which one HASN'T made the playoffs? Hint: it's the one in bold.
