There’s scuttlebutt in Baltimore that, even though rookie first-round quarterback Joe Flacco ready to hit the ground running from the start of training camp, Flacco won’t be the starter to start the season. Instead, the grapevine is pointing to 2006 Heisman winner Troy Smith, a fifth-round pick in 2007 who saw very limited action as a rookie. As we hear it, there are concerns that the offensive line isn’t ready to protect the signal-caller on a consistent basis, and that the team doesn’t want to expose Flacco to a consistent pounding. Still, the risk is that, if Smith plays well and the team is in the hunt for the playoffs come November, the Ravens could find themselves in a Browns-style pickle, with Smith playing the role of Derek Anderson and Flacco starring as Brady Quinn. So we think the better approach is to get Flacco ready, and to let him play, sooner rather than later.

That doesn't surprise me. As long as it's not Kyle Boller I'm fine with it.

yea they need to get Troy Smith in there so we can all see the bad products that come out of Ohio State....anyone remember a guy named A.J Hawk.....i think he was supposed to be better than a mediocre player

A.J. Hawk IS better then mediocre. And Troy Smith will never be a consistent starting QB in the NFL. Never. Kyle Boller should be the starter until Flacco is ready.

he isnt living up to the hype hype that he had comming into the leauge

the only defensive category that A.J Hawk was in last year in the top 40 was tackles and he was tied for 29th.......he should be better than that

Boller? Again? How many chances is this guy going to get? He's not a playoff caliber QB...

Boller is the best QB on the Ravens roster right now. No doubt in my mind.

Most experienced? Yes. But is he a good starter? Eh. Inconsistant. I think he's more of a backup rather than a true starter.

Thats true, but he is still better then Smith and Flacco at this point. You trying to tell me that Troy Smith is going to be a true starter in this league?

Let's be real, the Ravens NEVER had a passing attack that scared anybody. Todd Heap has been on the shelf too much and their receivers are average-to-good. Boller has a strong arm and is clearly their best option until Flacco gets going.

He can't even get to the playoffs to prove that theory wrong, that's the worst part about it.

Yeah but we are talking about Troy Smith and a rookie that are his comp. Lol. I wouldnt be surprised at all to see Baltimore in the playoffs this season.

really? I sure as hell would be surprised if they made it, there are too many good teams in the conference.
