I was talking to my father just today and he brought up something that I have forgotten about long ago. He mentioned the games that we saw Ryan pitching in. (yeah thats right I am old) And he recalled every pitch he threw he would let out a grunting noise. You would hear GGGGGGRRRRRAAAAAA............................. POP! And honestly it gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
Now my question is.... How many pitchers do that? I mean I have been to a few Ranger games and I never heard that before.(don't think the Rangers have had a pitcher like him since, all douche arms if you ask me) Is that something normal or was he just that much of a bad ass that he wanted everyone to hear his pitches as well? ![]() TIA AZ

Clemens and other pitchers used to wear mouth guards because of that. So they wouldnt give it up that they were throwing heat.

LOL No shit? That is nuts. I guess Ryan was just that bad ass that he could throw the heat and not care if they knew it or not.

Yeah Nolan Ryan was the man . I grew up idolixing RIckey Henderson and still think he is a top 5 player of all time, henderson that is. HE wrote in his book that three people wanted the 5000k ball. The catcher, Nolan obv and Rickey also wanted it as he was the 5k strikeout

As a huge fan of the Rangers, especially of Nolan despite me never being able to see him in his hay-day, I'm shocked to hear this. Never even heard about it before, even about the mentioned pitchers before doing it. Really though, if I was a batter, that would kind of distract me a bit, if it was loud enough of course. Maybe it was just another reason by Nolan Ryan is the freakin' man, period.
