I will casually blog here about whatever is on my mind. I'm a big football guy so it will most likely be about the NFL. It's a hobby of mine, so any input or criticism you have of my work would be appreciated.

2008 NFL 1st Quarter Awards
Posted 10-04-2008 at 02:06 PM by nyG
Well the first month of the 2008 NFL season is already completed, it went pretty fast too. I figured I'd give the whole blogging thing a shot. My first entry is dedicated to my awards for the first quarter of the season. Let's get started.
NFL MVP –
DE Albert Haynesworth, Tennessee Titans. 5 sacks, 11 Tackles, 1 FF,2 Pass Defended. Plugs up the middle of the best defense in the league. Not only that, but he has a lot of sacks for a defensive tackle. Clearly a problem for opposing offense’s game plans, because he is a great two-way player for his size. No doubt that the Titans are a different defense without him there.
Offensive Player –
QB Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints. 72.3% completions, 1,343 yards, 8 TD 4 INT, 106.9 Rating. Still running one of the most powerful offenses in the league, and continues to produce despite injuries to his two best targets.
Defensive Player –
DE Justin Tuck, New York Giants. 3 sacks, 13 tackles, 1 INT, 1 TD, 1 Pass Defended. Should be drawing all of the opposing offensive line’s focus and still produces. When he does draw a double team, one of his teammates is hitting home with pressure.
Offensive Rookie –
WR DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles. 2nd Round. 22 Rec., 327 yards, 14.9 YPC, 1 TD. 3 Rushes, 36 Yards. 16 Punt Returns, 157 yards. Putting up big numbers for a team that was in desperate need of a wide receiver to open up its passing attack. Very dynamic, runs great routes and has developed great chemistry with Donovan McNabb.
Defensive Rookie –
FS Chris Horton, Washington Redskins, 7th Round. 10 tackles, 3 INT, 3 Pass Defended. What a great draft steal. Already emerged as a starter and he’s playing his heart out. Made a key play by baiting Tony Romo into throwing an interception in the win over Dallas.
Comeback Player –
QB Jake Delhomme, Carolina Panthers. 60.0% completions, 860 yards, 3 TD 1 INT, 86.8 Rating. Coming back from Tommy John surgery, a tough procedure for a QB to have to go through. Organized late game winning drives in the first two games, and currently has his team (who finished 5-8 in games without him last year) atop their division at 3-1.
Coach-
Dick Jauron, Buffalo Bills.(4-0). Has made a great turnaround with his team, bringing them to a 2.5 game lead in the division after the first month. Prepared his team well for the first game of the year against Seattle and helped lead them to fourth quarter comebacks against Jacksonville and Oakland and a 2nd half comeback against the Rams.

You could also make a case for Fred Robbins. Tuck really shouldn't draw to many double teams with Robbins and Cofield and even Kiwanuka now. Speaking of Nuka, he is very quick and agile for a player his size.
