Default Knee Injury. Doc Says no more heavy lifts.

So I Injured my knee doing deadlifts. I was working out first thing in the morning and I felt no pain for the entire day. The following day I woke up and it hurt to walk. I just figured I strained my knee and I went on with my day. By noon the pain was gone, The same thing went on for a few more days. Then I remembered I had some anti-Inflammatory left over from a previous knee injury. (other knee and not from lifting weights.)

The next day after I started to take the medicine the pain was gone. The pain was gone until I ran out and then I went to my doctor and he gave me some more pills. The pain has come and gone since then. I went to a specialist and I had to get an MRI. It turns out I just badly bruised the bone.

It feels great today. I am trying to be very easy on it. She told me not to do any more squats, deads or cleans. I will take it easy on my knee for a little while before I go at it again. I will give it all next week w/0 any medicine to see how it feels before I start lifting again.

Well I have been feeling pain in the left side of my left foot. So I went to the foot doctor. I had no I idea what was causing the pain. It hurts everytime I take a step. So I had to get x-rays and the doctor basically said my feet are a genetic disaster. I need special inserts made and I need to go see a nurelologest. aperently nerver damage can cause my foot problems too.
The doctor thinks it is a genetic disorder, My dads feet are screwed up too.

I put all my weight on the outside of my feet. When I am doing something barefoot, like doing the dishes or whatever, I subconsciously raise the inside of my foot off the ground and stand on the outside of my foot. Which is why the knee injury and the floor pain is related because If I am not evenly displacing weight across my feet, then when I do dead lifts and I pick up enough weight to bruise my knee bone then I am putting more weight on my feet then they can handle.

Good news I got a massage today and I think the knot in my right trap is gone now. I have been lifting for to years and now I have three injuries/problems at one time.

I went today. I took it kind of light.

Squat
3x5 135
bench 3x5 135
Deads 1x5 225
dips 2x8

I just did my warm ups as full sets.

My knee feels great. I had both of my knee's wrapped though.

Almost all injury can be related back to form. I would still be careful with your deads and squats at reps of 5. If you want certain areas to be bigger, than do an excersize off of your feet that isolates the muscle more. Cronic knee injury is not something you want.

Injuries are inevitable, Good form is only prevention. I need to start wrapping my knees but I hate wearing the wraps. I do a lot of compound exercises that involve the legs so i need to be very careful.

LOL

I will quote from the book Starting Strength. Mark Rippetoes knows has forgot more about lifting weights then I will ever know.

"When people lift heavy they are risking injury. It is an inherent part of training hard, and it must be prepared for and dealt with properly when happens."

Injury's can be prevented. An injury is inevitable.

If we are talking about specifics, such as maxing or 2-3 reps, okay. Hell, picking up a bag of groceries, you risk injury. With proper form, it limits your injury to a muscle tear from the bone, or hernia type of injury. And that is due to pushing yourself to far too quickly. I still think injury is preventable, keeping the right things prioritized.

* Side note* What do you do and how long have you been lifting. I am not trying to figure out your credability or get in a pissing war.. Just curious.

I have been lifting for three years.
What do I do? as in for a living? I install signs.

I lived in an apartment that had a free gym that was full of machines. I use to come home from work and go through all the machines and go home. I moved out of my apartment 2 years ago to move back with my mom while I saved for my house. I joined a gym got some advice.

I lift or strength mainly right now I have little concern about my size. I was not very athletic and therefor I was weak. Now I am almost to the point where I can keep up with some of the big guys at work.

What about you?

I agree 100% that injury is preventable, several ways.
Stretch, stretch, stretch and warm up sets.

I am not 100% sure when I actually hurt my knee since it was a bone bruise I could have done it at work jumping off the truck or who knows what. I assume it was from lifting weights. I felt no pain or soreness during my workout.

If you want maximum muscle break down, then you dont want to stretch the working muscle, before or during the work out.. Save that for the days after to keep making minor break downs.

I have been working out for about 12 years. But havent really taken everything serious until about 6 years ago. I have been a personal trainer for 6 years and I am also the Training GM of a major athletic club. I have 14 trainers underneath of me.
