Chargers LB Shawne Merriman To Forgo Knee Surgery - The Postgame Pub

San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman informed the team on Wednesday that he has decided to forgo surgery on his knee and will play in the 2008 season. Merriman revealed on Saturday he has two torn ligaments in his left knee and has been told by doctors that he could suffer a possible career-ending injury if he attempts to play without having surgery. The three-time Pro Bowl selection has been seeking opinions from doctors outside the organization and had been trying to decide whether to have surgery or continue playing.

Not sure what I think about this. Dude wants to play, I'll give him that much. But risking your career over it? Maybe he should sit out the first few weeks and see if they have a shot at being a contender first.

I don't usually wish injury upon anybody... But I hope he gets knocked out.
