It’s been a long time since Plaxico Burress played for Nick Saban at Michigan State in the 1990s. Burress has gone on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, while Saban has gone on to coach at LSU, the Miami Dolphins and Alabama.
But that doesn’t mean Burress has forgotten that he thinks Saban was a first-class jerk. In his new book, Burress writes that Saban did a lot of lousy things during their time together with the Spartans, including preventing him from taking time off from practice to visit a close friend who was in the hospital. Burress does acknowledge that Saban is “really smart,” but he also writes, “I didn’t like him.” Adds Burress, according to the Sun-Sentinel: “When Saban got mad or something happened, he would just spaz out, flip out.” Burress indicates that it’s common knowledge that players don’t like Saban; he writes in his book that in a conversation with Giants teammate Sam Madison, who played for Saban with the Dolphins, Burress tried to tell Madison why he doesn’t like Saban, but Madison beat him to it by saying, “He don’t have no people skills.” And Burress reminds readers of his book what everyone who follows football knows: Saban regularly lies about his future plans. Saban’s most famous lie was insisting that he wouldn’t quit on the Dolphins to coach Alabama, but Burress also says Saban told the Michigan State team he wasn’t leaving Michigan State for LSU. “Then the next day, the very next day, Saban said, ‘Guys, I’m going to LSU,’” Burress writes. “So that let me know where he was coming from as a person and how loyal he was. … I didn’t trust anything he said at that point. Nothing. Source: Michael David Smith, collegefootbaltalk.com |

Wow, even more lies from Saban. Not surprising at all actually. This guy is dishonest and disloyal to the extreme. I don't know how someone can let thier kids play for him.

not the first coatch that anyone has thought was a dick nor the first person in professional sports to lie about staying and then leaving immediatly afterward.
anyone who plays sports knows how competitive and stressful it can get especially when not only your pride but your job in the case of a coach in the NCAA level or the entire team on the NFL level You get stressed out when people want to do stupid shit, blow their assignments or make stupid mistakes. For a college coach football is their life and they would want the players to feel the same way from summer practice all the way until they play the last game of the season. My co-workers veiw me as an ass with no people skills, should i have gone into the career path of coaching i'm sure i would have been the same. In a youth 13-16 travel hockey tournament I had a coach jump over the bench onto the rink to yell at a ref. then get immediatly ejected from the game. Playing/coach can be and is very intense. The goal is to win. When it's a team your either with them or against them.

greed makes people do things that are disloyal. Doesn't make him a bad coach.
Cant blame a guy for going for more money 90% of the people in the world would do the same. I know plenty of people who would leave a job for a dollar more an hour.

Yes they would, but they wouldnt lie to others faces about it. And he is a good coach but when your recruiting how can you sit in someones living room and say yeah, Im going to be here for all your 4 years and have any credibility at all.

in any football sport especially nfl you never know when a coach will leave for the higher dollar or get booted.
It's just a risk. However if your playing for a big school in a conference that gets lots of coverage like Bama or LSU they are going to be a consistantly descent school pretty much year after year. Now if he went to Duke or USF i could see that being more of a problem. But when a coach with a great name like Sabian asks you personally to play, how do you say no? Unless you've got your heart set on playing for your favorite team

Your trying to defend him and it isn't working. He is a liar plain and simple. Lets see how many top recruits he gets now.

I'm just saying that people will play for him including top recruits because he will win games and has and will continue putting together championship teams. He is a coach with a big price tag and he will continue coaching better football teams of the NCAA so long as he keeps winning games. I don't see players who are interested in going to Bama saying "no fuck that I heard sabian is a lying asshole, i'm not going there" or parents saying "you should consider another school because sabien is a lying dick" growing up as an athethlete i would have considered it an honor to have a coach like Sabien to ask me to play with him when a coach of his stature could be knocking on the door of anyother player. He can win games when he is on the field. I dunno what changes happened between him saying I'm not leaving and when he left might have occured. Maybe the current school refused to pay more money, maybe he needed the money, maybe it was a conflict of interest. None of us hear what goes on behind close doors and most of those conversations should be viewed on the buisness side of the paper and not the sports. Either way. Bama will do well this year, the recruited well this year and so long as any good coach is at bama they will continue recruiting well. You dont get 12 national championships by hiring deadbeat coaches.

Just to dumb it up:
Nick Saban is a lying sack of shit. Just more reasons why he shouldn't be given positive credit. |
