The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Falcons have made overtures to Marty Schottenheimer regarding their head coaching vacancy.

If he gets the job, can he turn that organization around?

I really think he would be a good fit in Atlanta. He has a good eye for talent and IMO is a damn good coach. I would like to see him turn that place around.

UPDATE

Marty Schottenheimer told SI.com that a report he's been in discussions with the Falcons about their head coaching vacancy is news to him.

"I have not heard a word from anybody about anything relating to the Falcons," said Schottenheimer. "I really don't know much about the Falcons situation, other than what has gone on of late out there. I really don't think I'm going to do it -- coach again."

Wow.

Look, as long as you're not expecting to win late season playoff games, Marty's the man. That's exactly what the Falcons need right now.
