Steelers sign quarterback Leftwich - The Postgame Pub

With the injury to Charlie Batch, Pittsburgh has signed Byron Leftwich. Leftwich has pretty much been a bust so far.

Ugh. Leftwich is one of those QB's that can run, but can't throw worth a shit.

You must be confusing him for someone else. Leftwich is strickly a pocket passer. He isn't very good at all, but he can't run to save his life. He is extremly slow and imobile.

Leftwich had potential in Jacksonville, but he just never did anything. I always thought Garrard was the better QB.
Didn't Leftwich start one game in Atlanta and play horrible?

One or two games in ATL yeah. But he got hurt. He just never really improved his game in any aspect so far during his career.

I know. Bad memory. But since I mainly focus on Seahawks news, other teams I don't pay THAT much attention to. But isn't Leftwich pretty much fragile? I know he had that college football game where he broke his ankle and he continued to play, but I thought that when he came to the Pros he was getting hurt a bit.

As a Steelers fan I didn't think Batch was all that great either. He's good as a QB coatch from the sidelines but thats it.

Maybe the O-line of Pitt can keep Big Ben from being sacked more than any other QB in the NFL this season and he will stay healthy. Then it wont matter who they use as a back up QB.

Yeah, Byron is pretty fragile. Seems like he is hurt every season.

I don't think it was a bad acquisition. Apparently he looks pretty good in practice and maybe time as a backup will give him time to heal if he is ever needed. I like that we have Dixon back there too, because he will be a good backup once he gets a little experience under his belt.

Can run? Leftwich is a STATUE in the pocket, and is notorious for it. Getting hurt lost him the starting job in Jacksonville and he probably won't get the chance to start again unless he gets the same chance Garrard did

Its not a bad move to have him as a backup. Having him as a fulltime starter however is horrible.
