In May and again earlier this month, Goodell mentioned the idea of extending the regular season again to reporters in Cincinnati, saying he believes preseason football is a poor reflection on the NFL product. "The bottom line," said Patriots owner Robert Kraft, "is that I think you'll see us going to 17 or 18 regular-season games in the future." Yet it's not just the poor quality of the preseason that has Goodell and NFL owners discussing an expansion of the regular season, the uncertain labor forecast with players is also driving the discussion. Owners feel that too much of their profits go to players, the players don't agree but by expanding the regular season - which would be the fastest way for owners to generate more revenue - is one possibility to help the sides resolve the tug-of-war.

This is gonna make for one hell of a long year for the players. But I say do it. The owners are getting kinda greedy and so are the players. Make them work for it. lol

I am sure they would. remember back in the 70's, they had 6 preseason games and I think a 14 game schedule.

I personally don't like it. Preseason is where you're real training camp is. Sure the starters don't play entire games but it helps them ease into competitive football and be prepared to go a whole 60 minutes. Not to mention you're giving your young guys a taste of the action before you make you cuts. 4 playoff games on top of 16 is already enough. 18 would be physically demanding and with 17 every team has to have an international game or neutral site game. Risky for injuries too.
