1. Cowboys
They have depth issues, haven't won a playoff game in going on 13 years and have a lot of questionable personalities on one team. But those things don't matters as they've got a very talented crew of starters and played well against the Browns. 2. Steelers They have a solid argument for the #1 position but there are still question marks with the offensive line and how it will perform this year. This year marks a major change in balance between this and previous Steelers teams, as the offense seems more talented than defense. They are carrying the torch for the wounded AFC. 3. Eagles If it were almost any team other than the pathetic Rams, they would have taken the #1 spot in place of the Cowboys. McNabb, who looked better than he had in many years, and his crew of nobody receivers made a big mark on Sunday. If this turns out to be more than a flash in the pan their NFC East rivals will be in for a long season. 4. Chargers It was a big blow to lose at home in the opener but they can bounce back. An extraordinarily weak division and talented team means they'll be able to sail into the playoffs. Losing Merriman may have hurt their already thin linebacking corps but they have more than enough talent on defense to make up for it. 5. Panthers What a difference a year makes. A healthy Delhomme, revamped offensive line and a revitalized Peppers contributed heavily to the upset on Sunday. Barring the typical injury plagued season they should do well but a potential lack of depth in the receiving corps and defensive line remains a concern. 6. Giants They should have done better against a struggling Redskins, but they have the talent to do well. Winning the SB may have taken a lot of pressure off of Coughlin, but it still remains to be seen how the defense will look minus key players Strahan (retired) Umenyiora (knee) 7. Colts A beleaguered offensive line and shaky Peyton Manning lead to a stunning Colts defeat but don't expect them to stay down once the line starts coming back and Manning gets into a rhythm. Going up against a weak Minnesota secondary should be the cure for what ails him, but they if they want to win games they can't forget about Addai like they did in Sunday's defeat. 8. Packers Rodgers may benefit from a couple easy games but it will be a trial by fire after that and into November. While youth may be considered one of their strong points, it is just as easily one of their weak points, as a lack of definitive leadership may hurt them down the road. 9. Bills While this may possibly come back to bite me, the Bills are poised to take advantage of a neutered Patriots team and finally dethrone them as AFC East champs. With a defense and special teams that can score points, it will take pressure off of their young offense. 10. Bears Nobody expected the Bears. While they may still have loads of offensive inadequacies and dangerous lack of depth on both sides of the ball, if their defense remains healthy they will be a force to be reckoned with. Kyle Orton finally proved he was the answer, giving some much needed stability to the wavering Bears offense, and the emergence of young running back Matt Forte may prove to reverse their trend of ineptitude in drafting offensive players. 11. Broncos 12. Saints 13. Buccaneers 14. Jaguars 15. Cardinals 16. Titans 17. Jets 18. Browns 19. Vikings 20. Seahawks 21. Patriots 22. Falcons 23. Ravens 24. Redskins 25. 49ers 26. Texans 27. Dolphins 28. Lions 29. Bengals 30. Chiefs 31. Rams 32. Raiders |

panthers a little overrated? They have won 1 game and are like 2 years from the playoffs and now they are a top 5 team? Above Giants, Colts, and Packers?

Rosario looks like he's going to be a stud, so Delhomme is going to be in an amazing form once Smith returns. |

My rankings are based on talent and what teams have done this year. Last year they went 7-9 with David Carr at the helm for more than half the year. We also have had major changes, more than half our starters are different from the same group one year ago be it different position, new acquisition, what have you. The Giants were impotent in the second half against a weak Redskins team, the Colts lost to the Bears and the Packers had the fortune of going up against an ABYSMAL Minnesota secondary and Travaris Jackson. For now, yes the Panthers are top 5.

The rankings are great except for the obvious homerism with the Panthers being in the top 5. Top 10? Maybe. Top 15? For sure. But top 5? No chance. The Panthers looked good, but the Chargers aren't exactly known for being fast starters and with Merriman playing hurt, the Panthers had a chance. The Cowboys, Steelers, Eagles, Giants, Packers, Bears, Bills, and Ravens all looked as good if not better with the Chargers, Patriots, Colts, Browns, and Jaguars all deserving attention at the same level as the Panthers.

The Ravens are still a shit team, the Pats don't have Brady anymore, the Colts should do better but for now they still have problems, the Browns were shit (see what I did there?), and the Jags turned into pussycats. I don't care what they did last year, this is a whole new season. |

But this quote really made me reply. You are not looking into your facts here. The Redskins were streaking at the end of last season, and simply wanted that game more than the Giants did. And do you really think that the Colts aren't still an elite team just because of 1 bad performance. They're the same stacked offense with the smartest player in the league at QB. |

I'm sorry but isn't your excuse just as bad as saying the Chargers started slow? I'm basing this solely on this year, and what these teams have done and the level of talent they have. You are using preconceived notions you had based on the Panthers/Giants/Chargers/Colts from last year and so on. The Colts have elite talent levels, but did not play like that on Sunday. When they improve they will get ranked higher. I don't understand why people have such a hard time with that. This isn't who is the best team, this is who is playing the best right now. |
