Default Without Brady, will the Pats make the playoffs?

Will the Pats self destruct without their star QB? Or will BB keep them going?

I for one say they are not gonna make it. That defense IMO is good. But without Brady running up the score making the opposing Offense one dimensional. I think they will be exposed and go .500. Because what happens when Brady and company all of a sudden jump up 14 or 21 to nothing?? The other team is forced to throw non stop to try and keep up. So basically the defense plays a Dime or Prevent all day.. Just my .02

I really think that it is all blind speculation until we at least see how Cassel plays, but with that I'm going to say that they don't make the playoffs.

Their corners are inexperienced and without the comfort of a big lead, the defense will have to stay more honest against the run and with the Bills, Dolphins, and Jets all improved from last year, I see the Patriots just missing out on the playoffs in the strong AFC.

No question they will make it. Brady is great but losing ONE player is not going to totally dismantle a team that went undefeated last year. I see ten wins and a playoff spot. And mark my words, Maurony is a damn good back. If they go to the run more this year you will see big things from him.

They won't. Cassel can't lead a team to victory, regardless of the talent around him.

The Jets, or Bills are going to come out of the East, so their only shot is a WC.

I agree with Crono. New England, although a great team will have to adapt to the MOST IMPORTANT position on the field. The only way i see them making it to the playoffs is if Moss takes 90% of receptions, not going to happen. Cassel played well last week, but they did play KC. This week should be a much better test.

Brady went out during the first series last week and Cassel led the team to the win. Threw a TD to Moss as well.

Anyone could have done that against Kansas City.

I think scheming makes the Pats 'good' defence look great at times. That may be the case for Cassel as well, he's in the NFL for a reason. He's got potential, and I think as the year continues he'll tap into it more and more. There's at least 5 of us here, that could lead the Pats offense to 5 wins this season. He'll be able to do it, and he's got one of the best in his ear telling him what to look for and how to learn.

No.

Let's see how he fares against better competition first.

Cassel has potential but he's not nearly up to filling Brady's shoes. Maybe in a couple more years but I don't see it happening this season. Of course, I think losing Brady somewhat discouraged the rest of the team so that they are not necessarily playing up to their normal levels either.

Well Cassel is 15-21 for 160 yds and a TD. NO INT's. Pretty good game manager if you ask me. You asked for more competition and the Jets are better then the Chiefs. With about 5 min left and the Pats up by 9 its looking bleak for the Jets. Matt Cassel is about to get his second win. Like I said, the Pats are not missing the playoffs.
