What would you rather have? Do you think the passing opens up the rush or the rush opens up the pass? Patriots proved you don't need a good rushing game to make it to the Super Bowl. I have to say that I would rather have a great rushing attack just because it eats up more clock and it allows the defense to rest a little more. But I can also see the positives of having a great passing attack that can spread the field and score at will.

IMO it greatly depends on the coaching and kind of team. But if I "Had" to choose it would be a great passing game. Simply because it is more exciting to watch. lol

I would have to go with a great rushing attack. That will open up the passing game. A good rushing attack will make a mediocre qb look better than what he really is

In theory that works. Because if that was fact for every "Great" running team. Then the mid 90's Lions would of been SB champs many times over. Like I said, it really depends on the team and how it is designed and the coaching staff.

those lions teams also had a all pro wide receiver in Herman Moore...they had a really good passing attack...chubz had it right with no D....
i really think that you have to have good rushing before you have good passing...just look at the lions...kitna threw up ofver 4,000 yards last year and the team was still garbage |

Yeah but also look at Barry Sanders and the Lions. They were garbage. And the Vikings are garbage. I think you need a good passing game and can get away with a subpar RB. Perfect example is the Colts and whoever they have back there including Edg. He has done nothing since leaving them. Yet Addai and others have flourished. And they are NOT special backs.

Also the Raiders when they went to the SuperBowl that year. They had the number one offense in the league and Charlie Garner ran for less then 1000 yds. But because of thier passing game he averaged close to 5 yds a carry.

I think either offensive scheme is successful, I just feel that when Winter comes around teams better know how to atleast maintain a somewhat successful running game.

It could go either way really. The run breaks down the defense 'physically', but the passing game wears down a defense conditioning wise. I think with all the athletes they have now, IE Merriman, Ware at linebacker, the pass might be a better option.
Unless they have 6 DBs on the field at once, there is almost always a mismatch somewhere on the field in a passing play. Now, in the case it's a full prevent DB situation, the offense would be smart enough(I would think) to call a run. The Rams used to do it through the air, and the old teams used to do it through the run. But if a team finds themselves down, you've almost GOT to have a good QB and passing attack to catch up. |
