Let me give you guys some background on my trip to Scotland. Some of you may be wondering why of all places on this planet would I go to Scotland? The answer is it's where I was born. I haven't been back there in 25 years. More than half of my living relatives are there and for some of them it was the first time meeting me (and the same for me). I was born in Greenock Scotland in September of 1979. My mother was from Greenock and my father (or lack thereof) was a US Navy Sailor station at Holy Loch, Dunoon (about a 25 minute ferry ride from Greenock.
I've always wanted to go back and visit but never followed through until this year. It was my Aunts 50th birthday and she was having a party thrown by my uncle. Not a surprise party at all but my mother, myself and my brother supplied the surprise. She was completely blown away and it was awesome. Anyway lets get on with the pics. Here is a map of the area I was in. We went from Glasgow to Sandbank, which is right outside of the town of Dunoon. ![]() before we got to the Ferry in Gourock, we went to the top of Lyle Hill in Greenock. This picture overlooks Gourock with the town of Dunoon in the distant background. ![]() This is from the ferry crossing over into Dunoon. ![]() ![]() ![]() A couple of days later we ventured into the town of Dunoon. These pics are from Tighnabruaich, where my grandfather lives.
This is the Tighnabruaich Viewpoint, right before you get into the town. This is where my grandmother's ashes were scattered when she passed away about 20 years ago. They were scattered over the water. This body of water leads to the River Clyde. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My Grandpa's favorite Pub at the Kames Hotel ![]() ![]() ![]() Most of us have seen the movie Braveheart, which is the portrayel of Sir William Wallace. The biggest and probably the most pivitol battle Wallace and the Scottish army ever had against England is argualbly the Battle in Stirling Scotland. Where the Scots destroyed Stiriling Bridge leaving the English sitting ducks. Here is the Wallace Monument: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inside the Wallace Monument: ![]() The Wallace Sword, taken after the Battle of Stirling. The pics look great, I always wanted to go to Scotland.
Looks like you went when the weather was decent, the weather here in Germany the past few weeks has sucked.
