glad to have you aboard and i wholeheartedly agree with your dissent over the supposed "war on drugs". i certainly support the use of recreational drugs, and all other activities between consenting adults, as long as they are not infringing upon the rights of others. while there are certain aspects of reagan's ideology, and that of republican's, i do disagree with, no modern president has done more to shrink the scope of government, as well as limit the government's meddling in economic affairs and the financial sector, than reagan.

lolz true, although i'm sure this was covered in the general education breadth requirements. while we would certainly argue about just about everything with respect to politics, one thing i simply could not attack is the quality of education you received; and that's saying something, just look at all my posts on honda-tech (i.e: stanford > VA-TAK!!! in the GD forum).

The ATF.. Although I am not a fan of what they do, don't we really need them?

that was fast . i accidentally refreshed while typing this, so here's attempt #2. laissez faire, in a nutshell, is a reference to a famous quote from a french statesman in the late 1600's. loosely translated, it means "leave them be". how this pertains to economics, is to support limited to no government regulation or intervention into economic affairs and the financial sector. the philosophy advocates against government ownership or seizure of private property, and any form of wealth redistribution or government imposed "savings" (i.e.: welfare and social security). it advocates for minimal taxation, only for national security, environmental, and infrastructure purposes, and the abolishment of the federal income tax. it also advocates against any government regulation pertaining to the financial markets or economic matters. this philosophy does so, with faith in the efficiency of free-markets, and the public's responding to incentives. as such, it ultimately advocates for the most efficient economic model, free-market capitalism.

this is a pretty shitty explanation, but it should, at the very least, provide some sort of background into the ideology.

as for the ATF, this is merely another shining example of bloated government and the worthless administrations they give birth to. the atf is the governments vehicle for enforcing laws pertaining to the use and sale of firearms, and regulating "unlawful" commerce in alcohol and tobacco products. this agency is an example of the many government agencies which infringe upon the rights granted to its citizens by the united states constitution. the atf does little more than serve as henchmen for big government to enforce unlawful taxation on alcohol and tobacco products, and to regulate the possession, use, and transfer of firearms in this country, even though these unalienable rights are granted to citizens through the constitution. put simply, they are merely a bunch of thugs who enable the government to unlawfully tax the shit out of the public.
