How do you edit these guys? I tried editing them, but the names were greyed out and unaccesible when I went to the edit player screen. This was annoying because I couldn't even edit them until I promoted them to the majors, so I did all that for naught. Is there any way to edit minor leaguers? Or Free Agents? I didn't even try Barry Bonds because of that. Is there anyway to set minor league lineups at all? I just got the game and couldn't figure out some of this stuff (I'm a roster geek, I admit it).

I'm on PS3 BTW.

Oh, great tips on the gameplay. These are quite helpful.

Raider1one, thanks for trying (I do appreciate it), but I'd like to do this outside of a franchise. And anyway, I'm still not convinced you can edit these guys even when you're in franchise mode, as I've seen a few people mention they are locked... hope I'm wrong.

This link is more along the lines of what I was talking about, unfortunately (not a solution, just confirmation of what I experienced):

[WHAT A DUMB RULE ABOUT POSTING LINKS! Change Raider1one's link to =25424 to find what I was TRYING to show you! STUPID!]

There's gotta be an easier way. If I find one, I'll post.

I think PGP has this rule to prevent SPAM... heres the link:

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...hread.id=25424

Its a pain in the ASS to edit the players.. they cant have any statlines for last season, and if they are in AAA, or AA you have to move them up to the majors to edit them.. Also if you want the updated names in your franchise you have to edit all the players before you start it..FYI.

There are 3 things to take into account when pitching for accuracy:

1. How good is your pitcher? An Ace like Johan Santana is gonna be hella more accurate than a nobody.

2. If you are using breaking balls, (curve, slurve, slider, etc.) its going to move on its own and you make it move more by going higher up into the red on the power section.. (the red yellow green part of the pitching meter) Even a fastball will not go where you want it with full power.

3. The more power you use in your throw (see above), the less likely its going to end up where you want, even if your release point is perfectly in the gold bar (if you dont have a gold bar in the release point hit the middle of the white area and after a few innings it will appear if you hit your spots).
For example. When I want to hit an exact spot on the edge/corner of the plate, I won't put as much power into it.. I find that by putting the power exactly into the little green sliver, along with hitting the gold bar in the release point, I can hit my spot 9/10 times.

You also have to make sure you hold he left stick in the exact position where you located the throw untill the pitcher releases the ball...

Good Luck

How to use THE RIGHT STICK PART 2 (influence hit ball):

Right stick does two things... Before, or during the windup if you press the stick up or down, and to a lesser degree right or left it will try to influence either a fly ball, grounder or push pull hitting. If you ask me, this is really not that noticeable, and it is more effective to swing with a pitch. meaning ex. not including begginer batting controls just veteran or above.

Right handed batter(everything opposite for left)

high pitches--- hit correctly will go into the air. if you swing early you'll pull it left, late push out to right field.

middle pitches--- more options here as you can swing over the top and ground, or swing underneath and pop on up, again early or late left or right.

low pitches--- almost always a grounder, better hitters with better plate vision can take oune of these up, even out of the park, but ususally ground them.

What swinging with a pitch means is: take a pitch where it is heading already. Inside pitches pull more often high ball fly more often low outside ground away more often. Not always, you can time your hitting to try for diferent results, but physics rule, and if you swing with a pitch: more sucess and more control.

If you are trying to squeeze a ball through the gap between first and second with a man on first... try to fin a pitch middle to middle low. Either inside or outside depending on your batters vision and contact rating. Again with a righty, try and swing a little late so your contacting the ball with the face of the bat aiming in the direction of the gap.

This goes for all areas you wan to hit for. Try the right sitck and see what is easier.
Also R3 brings up batters view and you can move your view around after pressing. So you can look for those gaps!

This is going to be very useful to my 34 year old rookie pitcher trying to crack the bigs! :-) I thought I might have picked up on that while playing, but now I'm going to try this each time. I was doing fairly well, but threw way too many strikes. This will help with "tactical balls" for sure!

8 shutout innings yesterday. Virtual me is tearing up AA thanks to this advice!

Cheers!

(Thankfully I'm a pitcher, so I can learn hitting on a longer curve ).

Hitting with The Power Button (square) or hitting with the Contact button (X):

You definitely can hit a lot of homers with the 'X' button. But I'm sure it gives you an advantage if you can get really good at the power swing. One thing to remember is that the POWER swing is ALOT less accurate and therefore harder to make contact with..

Power button is used in hitters counts only with 3-4-5 hitters so that you are more likely to get a decent pitch to hit.
You should not try to use power with say dustin or lugo on boston until.................. You score a few runs in the inning then let those guys try and drive a ball out the ballpark

The contact button just means they try to hit more level where power same swing just you raise the angle of the swing thats why you also only use power when your in ahead or fall to even counts

1-0 2-0 3-1

2-1 can be a power count with a guy like manny or ortiz

If you dont have a Power hitter at bat you will most likely have a Lousy hit with the Power swing unless you make excellent contact.. I only use the power swing when i guess both the pitch location and the type of pitch.. I have noticed that the power swing works alot better on Fastballs.
