I love the Yonder Alonso pick for the Mets with our first 1st round pick, but sign me up as one of those who prefer Jemile Weeks for our 22nd pick. Any reason you see him slipping out the first round? Good job finally putting Gerrit Cole into the top 11.

don't make too much about the cole move. many teams still show concerns over his make up, and signability will be a big question mark. if the rangers don't pop him at pick 11, it may be a long slide for him at that point. the yankees actually seem to prefer montgomery to him at this point, so we might see him possibly even slip to the supplemental round. |

coverage for this years draft will be minimal since we are preparing heavily for next years to coincide with the opening of our affiliate site. due to requests however, i will be posting a prospects list, although instead of 500 as we did last season, it will cover prospects up until the end of the second round. this list will be my personal "best available", and will not reflect where i believe the players will actually go (as that's what the mock draft thread is for). make sure to check back for the list and regular updates up until the draft. sign up to the web site to get a head start on next season's draft coverage, as well as to get the domain name so you can check out the coverage on the new affiliate site we're opening. it will be the most in-depth draft coverage anywhere on the web free of charge. we'll also have exclusive interviews with major league players, draft prospects, scouts, scouting directors, etc; this will be coverage you'll be unable to find anywhere on the web, and you won't want to miss it. signing up is easy and just takes seconds. i hope to see you guys on the board.

update will be posted either friday or sunday depending on my schedule. there's a lot going on right now with regard to speculation, but things are becoming a lot clearer.

Wow, I'm truly impressed with your mock draft for this one reason.. I saw the kid pitch against Texas today and shut them down through 7.2.. Lefthander named Scott Barnes - touches 94 mph and has 3 pitches.. We're talking late first round - sandwich pick for him. Nice that you had him in the 2nd though Jerome .. I haven't seen anyone else with him going that high.

i've been a fan of barnes for quite some time, and have actually taken heat in the past for my impressions of him as a prospect. i'm glad somebody that's actually seen him pitch is chiming in. the main reason why most mock drafts haven't included him is because most of these mock drafts are simply piggy-backed off of content on baseball america. i know this because if you search mlb mock draft in google, there's a mock draft on the first page from a self-proclaimed draft guru who claims buster posey is a defensive liability at catcher. i literally almost sh*t myself after reading this considering many scouts believe he has gold glove potential behind the plate, as he has terrific pop time, great blocking ability, and a cannon for an arm with pin point accuracy. to tell you the truth, most of these mock drafts aren't worth the bandwidth they take up. check out this site, and mlb.com for jonathan mayo's mock draft's, as he always does an excellent job covering the draft and has wonderful connections with big league scouting personnel. on a side note, i caught the stanford regionals this past week, and am please to note brett hunter was back to his old self today for the waves (although it was against my school, uc davis). there was a scary moment early in the outing when he took a line drive off of what looked to be his forearm, but he remained dominant and yielded only two runs against a very good davis offense who was playing out of their minds today, but caught a few bad breaks (wind, defensive shifts, etc.). the area scout from the orioles seated next to me was thoroughly impressed with his performance, and it'd be interesting to see how this performance helps hunter's draft position recover following an injury plagued, and inconsistent '08 campaign. eric thames, done for the season, was seen in the dug out on crutches; certainly a shame considering the terrific season he was having. the yankees still are awfully interested in thames, and should look to pop him in round 2-5. logan forsythe also was popular with the scouts in attendance (the cubs seemed to be focused on him all ball game). i'll have more following the stanford/davis rematch tomorrow. |

he certainly had a strong senior campaign for a strong program, against strong competition. that said he's more a college catcher than a legitimate pro prospect. look for him to go in rounds 6-9, as a pretty easy senior sign.

i wouldn't say gibson is a five-tool player, but he's a very interesting prep prospect with one of the highest ceilings of anybody in the draft. he'll likely be converted to the outfield to make better use of his great range. his body reminds me a bit of randy winn, and i believe his game could fall into that mold after a few years of development in college. either way, if he signs with a club or attends school, gibson is a guy we'll all be hearing more about in three years. |
