Phillies lost to first baseman Ryan Howard in their arbitration case against him.

Howard will make $10 million this year, rather than the $7 million figure submitted by the Phillies, and becomes the first player to win an arbitration case this offseason. Howard also ties Alfonso Soriano's record for the highest salary awarded to a player in arbitration. It's the first time the Phillies have ever lost in arbitration. They had been 7-0.

Ouch.
