Default UConn's leading scorer tears ACL

Connecticut junior point guard A.J. Price suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during Friday's NCAA tournament first-round overtime loss to San Diego, UConn spokesperson Kyle Muncy said Saturday morning.

Muncy said Price will have surgery later this week with the recovery time expected to be up to six months. Muncy said the hope is that Price could be cleared to practice at the end of September and be ready for his senior season on time.
Price suffered the injury nine minutes into the 70-69 loss at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. Price didn't score in the first nine minutes. He had a stellar junior season for the Huskies, averaging 14.5 points, 5.8 assists and becoming the long-awaited team leader for Jim Calhoun's squad.

Price had plenty of breakout games for the Huskies, including scoring 26 points, dishing out nine assists and committing just one turnover in a late-season win at home over Notre Dame.

The ACL injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for Price during his four-year career. Price's freshman season was halted when he suffered a brain hemorrhage that was determined to be a condition called AVM. He had a procedure to correct the problem but he wasn't allowed to play basketball for two seasons. During his sophomore season, he was suspended from the team for his role in the theft of laptops on campus.

He returned a year ago to average 23.9 minutes, 9.4 points and 5.8 assists, but the Huskies struggled and didn't make the postseason. Then, in his fourth-year in the program, and second playing, he shined to lead UConn back into the NCAA tournament.

From what I've seen, the kid is a great leader, so I hope he recovers from this pretty well.

It's not like it's career-ending. Just take a look at Brandon Rush.
