The AP is reporting that June Jones has accepted the job as the next SMU head football coach.
He got scared away by Florida already. We play Hawaii in the season opener next year. |

Hawaii football is set back for a couple of years.

I don't understand this move. Is this really a "step up" the coaching ladder? I mean, he put Hawaii football on the map. I find this either a lateral move, or a "demotion" of sorts....

you kidding??!! this is freaking smu man. the school as over a 1 billion dollar endowment, top notch facilities, a storied program (doak walker anybody), he now has a blank check for recruiting purposes, he now gets to recruit from a hot bed of talent in texas, and he'll be making over 2 million dollars a year. doesn't sound like a "step back" to me.

Hawaii has some outdated facilities and it doesn't looks as if they'll improve. It's hard to recruit talent at such a fledgling program. The facilities are the main problem though.

So it was for the cash then. Imagine what Hawaii could do to upgrade their program with a few million dollars like that he'll be getting in his own pocket now.

if he brings his offense over to SMU and can actually get some good players to run it he will have success there....he is an offensive minded coach....hopefully he can get some quick QB's and receivers with all the other competition down there....if he does then he will do good
