The Giants have reportedly agreed to trade Jeremy Shockey to the Saints in exchange for second- and fifth-round picks. Shockey still must pass a physical.
It's a risky trade for the Saints. New Orleans desperately needs a second receiver to catch passes over the middle, and Shockey can top his career high in receptions (74) if he stays healthy for once. That would make him a top-six TE again, albeit one with huge injury risk. It's unclear if Shockey will even be ready for camp. The Giants turned down the same offer in April, but they got plenty of value to eliminate a distraction. Kevin Boss and Darcy Johnson will take over at tight end. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8...40813162&ATT=5 |

Well the Giants got rid of that headache. I wonder if Shockey can redeem himself with the Saints. Oh well. Interesting trade. I wonder if he'll get is #80 there.

I like Shockey. If he is healthy, him and Brees will be a dangerous combo. And Reggie Bush is a bust. Best thing about him is Kim Kardashian.

Maybe Shockey wont drop big catches anymore /sarcasm. He's his own worst enemy. Has all the talent in the world but cant keep his mouth shut or show any type of respect

^agreed.
Now I will address a few things. Jerry Reese, although a large part of the Giants success last season, is the guy responsible for this mess. He chose his draft pick (Kevin Boss, who is still unproven) over one of Accorsi's own picks. He told Shockey to watch the big game from the sky box. This and the reported shouting match that he had with Shockey were the main factors in this deal. I agreed during the start of the offseason that it would be in the team's best interest to trade Shockey, but let's be honest, if they were going to do this deal, it should have been done at the draft like it was speculated so the Giants could have gotten additional players THIS YEAR. I think this is a poor move from a management standpoint, especially since when healthy, this guy is in the upper-echelon at his position (receiving and run blocking). But I will still to this day refuse to believe that the Giants got to the Super Bowl because of Shockey's absence. With the way that he forces teams to shift either a nickel back or safety on him since linebackers can't cover him, he changes the gameplan of opposing defenses. You can't say that having Shockey on the active roster equals no rings last season. To me this is a move that I think will give the Saints the edge over the Buccaneers for the division title. Shockey is re-uniting with our old offensive coordinator Payton, under whom he flourished in his early seasons in the league. Their passing game is strong (led by home-grown Hofstra boy Marques Colston), and with a healthy Deuce McAllister they will have the offense that got them to the NFC Championship just two seasons ago. And PJ, I don't know who this NYCgiants guy you speak of is, but my gamertag expires in August anyway, so I will change it then.

and in addition it is speculated that they were trying a three team deal with the Dolphins that would have sent Jason Taylor to the G-men, Shockey to the Saints, and those draft picks to Miami. Ohh man the Giants with another great defensive end? that could've been scary.

It's good to see the Saints making some more "minor" movement. This hopefully will come out to be a great investment.
