With the first overall selection in the 2008 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins select ... Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long? According to several reports out of South Florida, the Dolphins, who own the first overall selection in the draft, have begun contract negotiations with Long. Long, a 6-foot-7, 313-pound senior who moved to left tackle in 2006 and started his final 26 games, was an All-America selection and Big Ten lineman of the year in each of his last two seasons. With the draft just over two weeks away, the Dolphins hope to have a contract agreement with whomever they select with the top pick before they choose. Long might be one of several players whom the Dolphins negotiate with before the draft. In fact, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting that the team is also talking contract with Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston. Gholston, a 6-foot-3, 266-pound senior, set a single-season Ohio State record for sacks with 14 in 2007. Virginia defensive end Chris Long and LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey are other players who have been linked to the Dolphins as their potential selection at No. 1. Chris Long had a sensational senior season for Virginia, registering 79 tackles (19 for losses), 14 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. Dorsey started all 14 games as a senior last season (at left and right defensive tackle) for national champion LSU, finishing the season with 69 tackles (12.5 for losses), seven sacks, a forced fumble and four pass breakups. |

Like part of the article says, don't buy too far into this. Jake Long still isn't a lock to be our #1 pick.
We'll probably send offers to Gholston, Chris Long, Matt Ryan, etc. |

We'll probably end up drafting either Brohm, Flacco, Henne, or maybe even Woodson. Ryan isn't all he's hyped up to be.
This just in. The Dolphins are also discussing a contract with Gholston right now. Chris Long should be next, so Ryan, and McFadden seem like they are out of the picture. |

Why so serious?

I pretty much agree with Kiper on that one. (Which is unusual)
But the Dolphins have so many holes to fill.... they made a few good moves in free agency.... but even with the draft I really think this team is going to continue to struggle. Oh well, they have nowhere to go but up. |

its really weird to see an O-lineman go 1st overall....even more weird when there are so many other things that need to be addressed, it is tempting to go with the flare of a big name QB or RB 1st overall....but a good O-lineman is the safest pick you can make...it doesnt matter who is throwing or running the ball when they have no blocking....this would be a good pick
