Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith is prepared to let quarterbacks Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton compete for the team's starting spot until the fourth and last game of the preseason, though he's hoping it doesn't come to that. "Ideally you would like to have someone in place going into that last week of the preseason," Smith said Saturday. "But we'll just let it play out. If it's not clear by then, we'll let it go right up until (preseason's end)." The Bears' last two preseason games are at home against San Francisco on Aug. 21 and at Cleveland on Aug. 28.

I really hope that he has it figured out by the time we get to August 21st. We want to have a named starter so that the doubt isn't there going in to the season. The quarterback needs to have confidence.

it doesnt really matter....the bears are doomed with QB's....no matter who they have, the QB is still going to be below average most of the time...with no legit weapons and no reliable back, any QB will not do good

To be fair, our O-Line was so horrible last year we weren't getting success out of anyone, QB or HB. With Williams coming in and starting and letting Tait move over to his more natural position, I think that either Grossman or Orton will show big strides of improvement over last year.

As Lewis Black described the 2004 Presidential Election, the Bears' QB situation is giving us a choice between "two bowls of shit, and the only difference is the smell". The Bears clearly have the best chance to win with Rex Grossman as their QB, but should be seeking out the services of Daunte Culpepper sooner or later.
