Three days after a conference call with Green Bay Packers team officials on Tuesday in which quarterback Brett Favre emphatically expressed his desire to play in 2008, Favre on Friday formally asked for his contractual release from the Packers in a letter, sources close to Favre and the team said. The letter was sent by Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, via overnight mail on Thursday and arrived at the Packers facility Friday morning. Cook, on behalf of Favre, expressed a desire to have an amicable parting, as the Packers have been reluctant to embrace his return.
Source: ESPN.com What a dick move by Favre to basically force the hand of the Packer organization to take him back, attention seeking whore that he is. If he does go to another team will they get the Favre of a few years ago or the Favre of last year? Whatever team gets Favre they better be stacked like the Packers were last season or they might end up with the 30INT Favre... |

I would just let him go. I honestly think that they can reach the NFC Championship game without him. I think Rodgers is underated and will be very good.

FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel both report that the Packers would "never" release Brett Favre, as he requested Friday. They would rather trade him or make him Aaron Rodgers' backup.

Yeah there is Zero chance they release him. He would go to MInnesota so fast and stick it to the Packers Twice in regular season and a chance for a third try if both teams made the playoffs. There will be no chance of this because there is no way they release him

Someone suggested to me he'd come to Seattle to re-unite with Mike Holmgren in order to get that last ditch effort for a Super Bowl. Being the big Seattle fan, I said there's no way in hell. I do think that Favre's staying in the NFC North. Minnesota or Chicago.

"Sources close to the situation" insist that under no circumstances will the Packers release Brett Favre from his contract.
GM Ted Thompson said as much yesterday, but this report puts it more clearly: a trade is a possibility, but a release simply won't happen. |
