NFL - Barnett to file grievance against referee - The Postgame Pub

Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett is reportedly set to file a grievance against an official that pulled him down by the collar during Sunday's 35-7 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Barnett's agent told ESPN on Wednesday that the linebacker will file the grievance against umpire Jim Quirk.

For its part, the league told Quirk he went "over the line" when he pulled Barnett down in an attempt to break up a skirmish, according to the report.

The league also warned Quirk, but has said there will be no punishment, much to the dismay of Barnett and his agent.

"We're going to put our complaint in writing through a grievance, even if the league has warned the official," Barnett's agent Chuck Price told ESPN. "This guy puts his arm around Nick's throat ... he should get more than a warning. If Nick pushes (Quirk) to the ground just as a response, he'd be suspended and fined a couple of hundred grand."

"I'll tell you what, I've never seen anything like that in all my years," Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said. "I didn't see the whole thing, but I thought the official was totally out of line the way he grabbed Nick around the neck and pulled him out of there."

McCarthy said Quirk used poor judgment in trying to break up the players.

"I didn't see all of it but I saw the end of it," he said. "I thought it was totally unprofessional. I thought it was totally out of hand." The report noted that NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said McCarthy will not be fined for his comments.

what's wrong with the ref just trying to get some loving from the rear?

BFD. No one should get fined and everyone should just get over it.

I think it's BS for the same reason his agent stated. If he would have retaliated, Barnett would have gotten owned by the NFL.

If the refs were all fighting and he pulled one down trying to break it up I would see nothing wrong. Just ask for an apology and be done with it, he and his coach don't need this small incident to be a distraction during the playoffs.

Quirk has been fined $8,150, which is equal to the pay for a single game.
