Default Defense vs. Offense

Im a huge Defense wins championships guy when it comes to football. Im a firm believe that the best Defense always beats the best offense. Im a Raider fan too so I know how that goes. Oaklands best offense in the league and MVP Rich Gannon got blitzed off the field in that superbowl when the Bucs defense was a machine. Whats your opinion?

I completely agree on that one. There have only been 2 teams that I can recall as winning the Super Bowl with a high-powered offense. Those 2 teams were the St.Louis Rams and the Indianapolis Colts. Even in those situations the Rams had Aneas Williams I believe and kevin carter when he was good. And the Colts had bob sanders and dwight freeney.

Those 2 teams also had something else in common.... Great QB's.

I think that in this day and age, you have to have an offense that can strike to win a championship. I'm a Bears fan so I love defensive football, but the rules are for offensive, high scoring football.

You definitly need a good defense ala the Giants Run last year. But like finalfinally said, you need and offense that can also score. Maybe not like Patriots, but score when it counts.

You called it man. The league wants high scores and a fast pace. That is what draws fans. I imagine more ppl would enjoy a 45 to 39 score than a 3 to 10 score. So in conclusion I think Offense is what it takes...

The Pats would have won the game last year except they WAAAAAAAAAY underestimated the G-Men. (this game was the only game I rooted for the Giants):P

this is a debatable question, but I'll go with offense to be the key to winning games. ball control is very important. If you can control the clock by running the football effectively and converting on third down on the way to a score, you put a lot of pressure on the other team to answer. It is important to keep your defense off the field as long as possible to rest, and the other team's offense can lose rhythm if they don't have as much time of possession.

here's paraphrasing joe morgan's response:
"you have to score points to win games, but you also have to keep the other team from scoring points as well. this will give you a better chance to score more than the other team, which is the key to winning games".
