Despite a report that he might play in Russia next year, Jaromir Jagr apprently would like to return to New York.
According to a report in the New York Post, Jagr and the New York Rangers are expected to begin contract negotiations soon on an extension for the former Hart Trophy winner. "He doesn't want to leave New York and Slats (Sather) has told me the same thing," Jagr's agent Pat Brisson told the newspaper. "We're going to talk about a contract extension in the next week." Jagr struggled during the regular season, scoring a career-low 25 goals and 71 points. But during the playoffs, Jagr was one of the Rangers' best players and led the team in playoff scoring with 15 points. "Jags feels good about himself and what he and the Rangers can accomplish together," Brisson added. According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger, Jagr wants to play at least two more seasons and a two or three-year deal with New York is possible. However, he might wait until until July 1st when he becomes an unrestricted free agent and explore his NHL options or accept an offer to play in Russia. Jagr played with Avangard Omsk of the Russian league during the NHL lockout and scored 38 points in 32 games. |
