The Atlanta Thrashers have hired John Anderson as their new head coach, TSN reported Thursday.

The Thrashers fired Bob Hartley in October after the team started the season 0-6. Atlanta general manager Don Waddell coached for the rest of the season. The Thrashers finished the season 34-30, better only than Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference.

Anderson, who was promoted from the Thrashers American Hockey League affiliate in Chicago, has won four minor league titles as a head coach. The Wolves won the 2008 Calder Cup earlier this month.

Anderson, 51, also helped the Wolves to the Calder Cup in 2002 and the International Hockey League's Turner Cup in 1998 and 2000.

Anderson was Toronto's first pick (11th overall) in the 1977 amateur draft. He played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Maple Leafs (1977-1985), Quebec Nordiques (1985-86) and Hartford Whalers (1986-1989).

he wotn turn the thrashers around there team sucks and with the poor free agent market this year it doesnt look like atlanta will get any better
