Jagr goes to Russia; more NHL Free Agency
Jaromir Jagr, after deliberation decided if it wasn't New York, then it wasn't North America. Jagr will play for Avangard Omsk, who he played for during the 2004-05 NHL lockout. He will play there for two years, with his option for a third. I believe this will most likely mean the end of his NHL tour. Scott Gomez and Chris Drury are the faces that will try to lead the Rangers to the promised land.
LW Markus Naslund - Vancouver to NY Rangers. Rangers fill the void that Jagr leaves with another veteran winger known for his scoring. Although he has dropped off recently with age, so he isn't completely filling Jagr's scoring and captaincy void.
D Dmitri Kalinin - Buffalo to NY Rangers. Rangers filling a defensive void after trading Fedor Tyutin to Columbus. Not a big name defensemen but yet another new face brought in by the Rangers. Who knows if that hurts them in the long run.
D Rob Blake - L.A. Kings to San Jose. Veteran defenseman just trying to win a cup. Doesn't really completely fill the hole that is left by Brian Campbell's departure to Chicago, but still can be a force defensively if put on the right line for the Sharks.
D Dan Boyle traded from Tampa Bay to San Jose for D Matt Carle and a top prospect. Boyle was unhappy in Tampa and this move was expected. Depending on the ability of the prospect Ty Wishart, the Sharks clearly gain from this trade while still attempting to help strengthen their chances of winning a cup. Expect the San Jose to once again be a cup contender.
