Name your favorite NHL team and why they are your favorite in the poll above. The great thing about hockey is that the players are pretty much left to take out their frustrations on the other team, something that in other sports it's frowned upon.

My favorite team needs that killer instinct, I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick of the finesse mentality that the San Jose Sharks hold on to and their ex coach Ron Wilson preached about and IMO never worked especially in the playoffs when the Sharks were man handled and embarrassed. I'm hoping that Todd McLelland brought the killer swagger from The Red Wings and will instill that swagger into the Sharks players that they need to start hitting the boards and hitting them consistently.

Thrashers, I was born and raised in Atlanta, and before the Thrashers, we had a minor league team known as the Knights, and we still celebrate them during the National Anthem.

Islanders. My dad attended games regularly during the dynasty years (four straight cups from 80-83). Weird because my brother turned out to be a Rangers fan so we always have a nice rivalry during the season.

But the Sharks are a great team to be rooting for at this point, they are definitely contenders in the West and I enjoyed watching them in the playoffs against the Flames and Stars, those were some great series.

it has to be the Red Wings.....since i have been young my oldest sports memory is watching or going to a red wings game.....the sport kind of died for me over the years but i still have respect for them and still root for them when ever i watch.....

And the best is they get to beat the shit out of one another and not get called for it unlike BBall where the the refs take offense to everything from applauding to looking at em the wrong way...
