Default Ducks ink head coach Randy Carlyle to two year extension

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks are giving coach Randy Carlyle a vote of confidence with a two-year extension, the club announced Wednesday.
Carlyle, who had one year remaining on his original contract, is now signed through the 2010-11 NHL season. He led the Ducks to a 47-27-8 record for 102 points last season, second place in the Pacific Division and fourth in the Western Conference.
Carlyle, 52, also led the Ducks to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2007, Pacific Division championship the same year and a franchise-record three consecutive trips to the post-season.
"I'm thankful for the great relationship I have with (GM) Brian Burke and our hockey staff and expect more success in the future," said Carlyle in a statement. "We fell short of our goal last year and it's time for us to respond."
Carlyle guided the Ducks to their first ever Stanley Cup championship in 2007. Helping Anaheim become the first California team to win hockey's ultimate prize and compiling a regular season record of 48-20-14 for 110 points.
In his first year as an NHL head coach in 2005-06, Carlyle took the Ducks to the Western Conference Finals following series wins over Calgary and Colorado.
"In our view, Randy is one of the top coaches in the NHL," said Burke. "We've had an aggressive, hard-working club each of the past three years, largely due to his influence. He's clearly been paramount to our success since taking over the reins."
