Gaming trends and statics

Hey guys,
I'm doing a research analysis of the gaming industry for my business strategy class.
I'm starting out with the basic trends and information. For example, age, cultural, gender, technological, political, and economical trends. Finally, I'm going to apply Porter's 5 forces analysis to the gaming industry.

I don't play video games as much as I used to (school takes up most of my time), so I lost a feel for how things are run in this industry.

If you guys have any links and data to share, please do so. This would help me out greatly.

Sample questions:

1. Is World War II, gangster theme'd, and fantasy worlds still the major themes of video games?
2. On average, how many people play vidoe games? (national or world wide)
3. Total recent sales or revenue for 360 vs PS3.
4. Who are the top gaming manufactures (The actual games, not the consoles)
5. Does Microsoft, sony, or Nintendo own any of the gaming firms?
6. Is there any other big players other than the 3 listed in question #5?
