UFC Evan Tanner found dead in desert

Developing story.

“Authorities have not confirmed if the body is that of missing mixed martial arts fighter, Evan Tanner, who had fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Tanner, 37, has been missing since last weekend. Tanner’s friends from Oceanside, where Tanner resides, had been texting him without reply since Wednesday before they reported him missing on Friday. On Sunday, a campsite was discovered in the Clapp Springs area of the Palo Verde mountains. Tanner’s motorcycle was found at the campsite. A body was found today when a sheriffs deputy was flying around the general location of the campsite. The Imperial County deputy coroner is being flown in to retrieve and identify body.”

I really hope that it's not him.

It's been confirmed that the body belongs to Evan Tanner.

Calls to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office were not immediately returned, but according to a report from the Imperial Valley Press, a campsite, which included Tanner's motorcycle, was recently discovered. A sheriff's deputy found Tanner's body when searching the mountain's Clapp Springs area, according to the report.

The cause and other details of Tanner's death were not immediately known.

This article that I was reading earlier implies that there may be more to it than a simple accident. I hope that's not the case.

Quote:
A body believed to be former UFC middleweight champ Evan Tanner's was found on Monday in the Palo Verde mountain area in California after Tanner had gone missing in the area over the weekend.
Tanner, 37, had blogged ominously about his trip into the desert to "cleanse."
"I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life," he wrote on his journal for Spike TV.

I was reading that he ran out of drinking water and gas in his motorcycle. Really an odd story, I hope there's more to it than him just walking into his own death trap.

Want to hear something freaky?

Tanner's last MySpace bulletin was on 8/18. Christopher McCandless (Into The Wild) supposedly died on that same day (different year, of course). On top of that, Tanner's MySpace song is one from "Into The Wild" from Eddie Veddler.

Ugh, that is just a tad too creepy. Really goes along with the rumors of suicide, though.
