I just got my 50mm 1.8 lens. My qustion is what purpose should I use it for. I like taking pictures of landscape and buildings. Is this acceptable for these type of shots?

it depends on what you want.....I mean you can use any lens to take any pic....the 1.8f is great when you want a low depth of field so if you want to take a landscape shot and use a lower depth than what your regular lens will do then use the nifty fifty....so it just depends I was using mario's fifty and I used it for almost everything because it took a sharper image than the lens I had...

it was war between me and mikey before i got the 10-20...we both used to switch back and forth from the 50mm to the 28-80 haha...man i loved that 50mm...but now i would rather have the 50mm f/1.2 or the f/1.4
but yeah mikey and I used that lens for just about everything...it takes a good portrait...if the 50mm is the only prime lens you have...i'd use it for portraits...you really want a long lens when doing portraits...most people will actually say go with an 85mm or higher...so if u want to start doing portraits i'd pick up an 85mm f/1.8 or opt for around a 125mm lens...people say thats about perfect for portraits...when i get my new camera the 85mm will be my portrait lens :)

yea you can use your fifty on almost any shot...it does make for good portraits though since it has a low depth of field....it will allow you to put more focus on your subject especially if you have some random things in the background
