Report: Yankees trade with Pirates for Nady, Marte - The Postgame Pub

Just announced on the Yanks-Sox game that SI.com reports that the Yankees will trade Ross Ohlendorf, Jose Tabata, Phil Coke and another prospect to the Pirates for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte.

Yanks are very much in this thing called a playoff race

Damaso Marte certainly helps out their bullpen. He has been outstanding every year he has pitched in the majors. Nady certainly helps out although he will probably switch from right field to left. Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon are both high-paid designated hitters at this point in the season, and Brett Gardner is not ready for the majors. I wonder if this means that the Yankees' proposed deal of Gardner or Melky Cabrera to the Mariners for Jarrod Washburn is now dead?

I'm not sure, but Marte is a definitly positive addition.

Outstanding deal for the yanks. Tabata's value has plummeted over the last year or so. At one point he was an untouchable prospect. I don't think the yanks are done dealing

nice move by the skankees getting nady, very good hitter against left handed pitching.

Absolute steal. The Yanks gave up a troubled prospect as the centerpiece of the deal and get back a surging Nady and the best left handed reliever they've had in years.
