Andy Pettitte usually is the picture of concentration on the mound. The visor of his hat pulled low, he tunes out the surroundings. But in his start on Sunday night, when the Yankees bid farewell to the Stadium, he might let a little of the atmosphere get in.
"I mean, I want to try to soak it up a little," he said Thursday. "I haven't really done that. I usually am just in the game and have my head down. I'd like to look around." Petttitte is grateful to have been named the starter for the last Stadium game. He wants to take in the place that holds so many memories for him one final time, but also realizes the responsibility. "I want to give the fans something to cheer about, especially with the way I've pitched in the second half," said Pettitte, who has a 94-42 regular season record with a 3.70 ERA at the Stadium in his 11 seasons as a Yankee, interrupted by his stint in Houston from 2004-06. "Mostly I just want to have a good outing." Source: New York Daily News
